Well, the key question is: What is running very slow? Did you try using something like optimizeit to find the slow spots? I have found that everyone blames EOF for everything and it's only been guilty once.

Maybe your components are doing things suboptimally. Maybe your JVM is spending too much time garbage collecting. Lots of things can make your app slow. Maybe it's network connectivity DNS problems.
