From my experience text messages work basically the same as email. We
have a WO app that sends notifications to staff on their cell phone,
but all it really does is just send a short email to
<cellphonenumber>@vtext.com (we use Verizon Wireless). Going to other
way you can send a text message to an email address and you could have
the WO app check the email account. Depending on what you are trying
to accomplish I would think that you might have a better user interface
using some type of cell phone web browser to just interface with the WO
application directly. That all depends on what is available on your
phones. We have played around with using the browser on some of the
PDA cellphones to access some of our applications. You just have to be
careful about page layout so it is readable on the tiny PDA screen.
Another option is that some cell phones have a built in JVM and full
TCP implementations so in that case you could just write a small Java
application install it on the phone and have that communicate with your
WO application using whatever back end communication method you want.

Anybody successfully integrated the ability for cell phones to talk
with their WO app? We would like to be able send a text message from a
cell phone and have our WO app pick it up and do something with it.
I've been looking at SOAP and using some type of Web Service...can
anybody point in the right direction here maybe to some good
information on the proper way to do this ??
Thanks,
