Hi Bill,

Discounting history, the existence of those "proprietary and incompatible incarnations" don't make much sense. But discounting history is to ignore reality, isn't it?

Sure, but to be fair, acknowledging the past still doesn't actually address the problem that--despite WebObjects having been ported to Java five years ago now--it still hasn't hasn't been brought in line with many the basics tools of standard Java development such as the Java Collections API. That's PA's point. It's confusing and complicated for developers who are working in Java to have to deal with the completely parallel nature of the WebObjects foundation kit.

So, yes, let's acknowledge that at one time in the past there were great advantages to the Foundation Kit, and it certainly was a necessary stop-gap while porting WO from Objective-C to Java. But the product still needs to move forward in terms of how well it integrates with the rest of the Java world. I'd hate to think that the WO team was too concerned with history to ignore the present reality.

Anyway, I do mean this with respect because I appreciate your contributions over the years to the WO community, but I think it's important to point out the underlying problem suggested by this thread.

Best,

Colin
