Not sure if this is quite relevant in your case, but because WOF allows unqualified component names, there is some magic involve in trying to locate such component given only its short name...

Of course, such magic can fail now and then...

Check com.webobjects.foundation._NSUtilities.classWithName(), registerPackage() & Co. for the gory details.
