WebObjects-Based Phone Platform?

Hi Everyone:
I am currently looking to see if WebObjects would be suitable for an
XML-based phone platform, somewhat similar to what Danger did with
their Hiptop (T-Mobile Sidekick) platform. What I'm specifically
interested in learning is if we could use WebObjects to create a core
cluster of application servers that manage data/state/etc and
consume/provide XML web services to enable the following:
- AIM/MSN/etc connections: As a phone has an unreliable connection,
phone clients would sign in to their IM accounts via our Java server,
which would then forward messages to/from the phones as packets of
XML. Ideally WO could plug into some sort of Java library and perform
this function.
- Mail delivery / POP mail access / etc: I am sure WO can handle this
using some library or another (perhaps the mail stuff in WOnder?)
- XML web services that constantly sync with the phone: If a new photo
was taken with the phone, the phone would submit the file to a web
service that would add it to the database; if a new to-do note was
created, another web service would be called, etc. We would have to
have some means of authenticating all of these things (obviously), but
I am assuming this has already been worked out by others.
- Integration with SecurID: We are currently exploring turning each
device into a SecurID client, which we are thinking could make it easy
for us to do identity verification both for consumption of web
services and also when users log into the web-based control panel from
their desktops (this would prevent situations such as the Paris Hilton
fiasco of last week).
Since WO developers tend to be quite intelligent people, I would
appreciate any ideas or suggestions you guys have. ;-) This seems to
be one of those situations where WebObjects would be absolutely ideal,
as we could do the entire platform as one or multiple WO apps. Let me
know if I am overlooking something ...
Also, if any of you have worked on similar projects, or would like to
work on development on such a project, forward me your info and I'll
add it to our intranet. We may be in need of external help for this
project as it progresses, especially if we are to do it with
WebObjects ...
