Gzip is GNU Zip, so use gunzip, or use gnutar's "z" option:
gnutar -xzf WO522Solaris.tar.gzip
If I remember right, we had to change the compression format because the
KBase server wasn't configured to serve .Z files as binary.
P.S. Don't forget the 5.2.3 Update; see KBase article 107873.
