If Apple does not sell deployment licenses any longer does that mean:

- You can deploy WO via JBoss without a License key (meaning for free)? As I understood it up to now (no experience, just from reading) you had either to have WO installed on the machine running JBoss or you had to include the deployment license in the built WOApp. Perhaps I'm wrong here...

- WO is free for development and "free" for deployment on Mac Os X Server (How about Mac Os X Client? When you entered a deployment license/installed Deployment the hit-restrictions would go away and one could deploy WOApps on Mac OS X Client. Is this gone?)

And yes, I should have gone to wwdc myself, but is was not possible. So can anyone please ask these questions?

Regards,

Ute

I wish they could confirm this rather sooner than later.

I am perfectly OK with Mac OS X only development. Boy is this going to cause a stir at work!
But deployment would do better to remain universal. I could hardly handle the wrath of both the desktop and the server admin teams at the same time.

Now, I do have to make some people regret not funding a WWDC trip this year. Keeping them in limbo for a while about the deployment question may not be that bad a punishment :-D

Is that confirmed? Apple is still selling WO on the normal Apple Store.

So, no 5.3 deployment package for Solaris and/or Windows?

We're already running on Linux, which is of course not supported... I wonder if I could just copy the JARs over and have 5.3 on my Linux box...

I'd rather not run WO apps under JBoss.

Yes, but since Apple will no longer be selling deployment licenses, you'll be on your own deploying on anything by Mac OS X Server.

Hi!

Did anybody yet figure out if WebObjects 5.3 is a free update or a major release?

I'm currently downloading xCode 2.1. I shall see if it comes with only the tools for WO development or with a full-blown WebObjects installation.

Will 5.3 be available for other platforms. Is Windows development still supported or is it all xCode now?

Well, they updated the product page :

http://www.apple.com/webobjects/specs.html

Platforms

    * Mac OS X v10.4.1with Xcode 2.1 (development)
    * Mac OS X Server v10.4.1

So no dev tools on Windows. But they do says that you can deploy in any J2SE environment :

Flexible Deployment
Stand-alone J2SE server

* Runs on virtually any Java 2, Standard Edition, 1.3.1 virtual machine application
