I just tracked it down to:
requiresAllQualifierBindingVariables = YES;
If I remove that line from my fspecs, then I can open my eomodel.

Yeah, I get this as well ... One of the WebObjects guys was nice
enough to give up like 30 minutes at the Chieftan @ 10pm looking
into this on my machine, so it's a known problem. In my case, I
traced it back to my .fspec files. I don't know WHAT in my fspecs
yet, but when I moved them out of my eomodel, I was able to open
them. You might try the same and see if it gets you further.

Greetings,
I've been doing some testing with some of my projects since 5.3
was released and seem to have a problem with opening up a model in
Xcode 2.1 using the new model tool. I can open the file fine in
new EOModeler just not Xcode 2.1 using the new style model tools.
The error I get is:
Error
Couldn't open /Users/david/Documents/_Developer/WO/RBCWebAdmin/
RBCWebAdmin.eomodeld.
Reason: *** -[NSCFString charValue]: selector not recognized [self
= 0x4ea50b0].
Any insight greatly appreciated,
- David
