I have been using the xcode.index ant task with wolips today and have to say I am impressed with xcode for java development. One really good thing is you can set the speed of the completion popup. In eclipse this can sometimes take 1.5 seconds. With xcode, set it to 0.2 and it is just incredible. I think it might be time to switch back to xcode, but the only thing I see is the slow build times as a hindrance. I guess we could write custom build scripts to use woproject or something similar.

I will investigate over the weekend.

It looks like Xcode 2.0 doesn't modify Xcode 1.5 project files, so it's possible to develop using Tiger/Xcode 2.0/WO 5.2.4 then use command-line split install to deploy to Panther Server/Xcode 1.5/WO 5.2.3 - the projects can be opened by either version. You just have to install WO developer with a developer license (e.g. the ADC demo license, if Apple gets around to putting up a new one), then "upgrade" back to the original deployment license. I'm not sure about binary compatibility, though (i.e., manually copying over the WOA packages).

P.S. Add us to the list of shops quietly using WO to get the job done. We have a few WO apps in use on a few Xserves, built by about five developers. More apps and Xserves are likely too. We mostly lurk on the WO lists - usually, our questions have already been asked and answered in the past, and Google usually finds something useful.

Anyone know how software update keys to whether the update is needed?

I believe it's checking if you have (at least) OS X 10.4, Xcode 2.0, and WebObjects 5.2 already installed. On OS X Server, there's no Xcode requirement.
