Bill,

You should only use refreshAllObjects upon a locked EC.

Second, there's no point in calling refreshAllObjects on a newly created EC. I think you probably want to eliminate all calls to it and instead null out the EC (or call dispose() or reset()).

You're already creating a new EC every time. Just create one, use it, throw it away.

Finally, you must use a finally block. If there is an exception, your code never unlocks the EC. I would unlock and dispose the EC in the finally block.
