Yes, bringing back the old content from WhyWebObjects is a start. I think we should also put a list of people using WO, including their achievements, type of industries (SMB, media, etc.), other services they provide, etc. This way, it would help each other to find partners for projects, and to help potential customers for finding WO people.

I have heard that from several of our clients, "It is hard to find WO people" (or hard to find them locally).

We should have bring back the site two weeks ago and made t-shirts with the URL for the WWDC :-)

I agree with Jerry as well.

I can get a server back up for the whywebobjects site in the next couple of days, and could set up the "yet another wiki". ;-) Or maybe I should wait until after you all get together Monday before starting any content, and see what ideas come up.

Mark

There are cases for both approaches, but I prefer Jerry's suggestion. Perhaps also some of the advocacy content from the wiki should move to whywebobjects? Assuming, of course, that it is set up appropriately. Perhaps take the original advocacy content that was offered and convert it into yet another wiki?

I think that the two web sites (whywebobjects.xxx and .../wiki/ Programming:WebObjects) should serve two very different purposes.

The whywebobjects site has, and should continue to, run as an advocacy site. It's content should include lists of (& links to) successful deployments, testimonials, comparisons and evidence of superiority over competing technologies (e.g. RoR) and such.

The .../wiki/Programming:WebObjects pages should focus on educational content. They should include topics showing how to do things in WO, educational FAQ lists, resolutions to common problems and such.

Although I think there's room for overlap between the two (and I certainly believe that they should link to one another), I also believe that if either attempts to fulfill the objectives of the other, it will weaken it in its primary purpose. They should remain separate and distinct.

Jerry

When I heard that whywebobjects.com had been taken (as I understand it, just by someone who then wanted to sell it back at an inflated rate), I registered whywebobjects.org, whywebobjects.net and whywebobjects.info before the same could happen to them. I posted a message asking what we should do with it, what kind of content do we want, should I host it and/ or have Dov put back up the whywebobjects.com stuff, should we do a wiki site, etc., but at the time didn't get any feedback. Up until a couple of days ago, there was a placeholder page asking for content suggestions to be sent to my email address, but due to an in-progress physical office location move it'll be a couple of more days before that machine is back online.

Wouldn't it be best to point it to the WebObjects wiki book?
