The next logical step (maybe I am dreaming) would be to create a
clean room WO framework that is API-compatible with Apple's, reusing

EOF - it should be fairly easy to bridge EOEditingContext with the
current Cayenne stack, so creating EOAccess is really not required).
I'm just aware of one earlier project...
http://wotonomy.sourceforge.net/
I really don't know anything about its current state or activeness.
There are just 2 main developers listed, is it still active (?)
Does anyone know more about Wotonomy or similar projects (not counting
Cayenne, Tapestry or GnustepWeb) ?
Of course there are plenty of choices for things that "work like WO"
or rather "solve the same problems as WO in an elegant but different
ways". People who want to migrate from WO had this opportunity for a
long time.
I don't think there is anything that readily matches the goals of the
project that I am proposing however (GnustepWeb would be the closest,
but nothing in Java). So I was thinking more of building API from
scratch and reusing various existing building blocks behind the
scenes (e.g. instead of WOAdapter and mod_WebObjects, use mod_jk/
servlet container, etc.).
(also would be nice to collaborate with GnustepWeb on a framework
that supports both Objective C and Java)
