They said that Apple would keep their patented
stuff under wraps - well guess what?  I'd guess that's the whole
runtime, so what they were really talking about were the tools.  Same
facts, just weird spin.

Valid argument. ThinkSecret may have mixed the tools news with the entire WO runtime - plus rehashing the old AppleInsider rumor from 2005 about WO going open source.

On the other hand, I guess honestly few would have predicted the WWDC
2006 news after WWDC 2005.

For years, the situation looked stalemate.

The changes in just one year are proving there is dynamics outside of
Apple, be it Eclipse or the pace the community plugins matured...and
that's good.

I maintain that if the tools developments (let's call it an
"experiment" between Apple and the community in this interpretation)
advance well in the coming months, Apple may analyze the pros and cons
and open the kimono more.

So, ThinkSecret may be right even if they got it wrong :) ?
