Hi, Mark and Owen,

Mark is referring to javaeoutil which was described in a message to this list from Joseph Leo Moreno ( email@hidden ) on February 4, 2006 6:25:29 PM EST.

It's a great, if not well documented, utility.

Hello Owen,

Over the years I've used much more Oracle than any other db with WO, and I can't think of any gotchas. Primary key support is handled via sequences, which EOModeler will create and even initialize properly for you. Stored procedures and functions work. No extra framework is required.

I don't have any experience migrating OpenBase over. SQL*Loader is the tool usually used to populate data from flat files. However, there was a post in this group recently about a utility I've never tried that is supposed to move data to and from databases, using text as the intermediate form:

	/System/Library/WebObjects/JavaApplications/javaeoutil.woa/javaeoutil

Good luck!

Regards,
Mark

Hi All,

I've been working with WebObjects for over 5 years now and so far all of my projects I have been lucky enough to just have used OpenBase at the back end. However for my current project we have to use a Oracle DB. In fact we need to take an existing OpenBase DB over to it.

Having only ever briefly dabbled with Oracle in a database course way back in Uni I was wonder if there are any tips people could give me when working with WO and Oracle.
I think Im going to find out just how much OpenBase has been holding my hand and helping me along without me knowing it for all these years. For example do I need to start using EO_PRIMARY_KEY table or is there an equivalent to the OpenBasePrimaryKey.framework out there for Oracle ?

And if any one has any tips/experience they would like to share in shifting an OpenBase DB over to an Oracle one I would love to hear that as well.

Thanks very much
