best thing to get into it? book some training at least the WebObjects 1
Training. It is worth every penny and brings you up to speed especially
regarding the OO-thinking.

depends on what your hobby is. ;-)
doing an e-bay portal as a hobby? no problem with WO.
if you just want to do some blackboard or stuff like this, there do exist
many nice solutions already. but if your hobbby is "learning about WO" then
you should really think about taking at least one training to start...
for myself it was the best investment i have ever made. I also took the
WebObjects 2 - "Train the Trainer" training, that enables me to give
trainings. but you should look out for some ttraining beneath your area.
perhaps upcoming WWDC offers some basic training through some sessions.
this is just my personal opinion.
