Hi Wolfram -

From having worked on newsletter apps that mailed weekly documents to
users registered on wo sites, there are a few things I remember that will help.

Sort your emails by destination domain - this will help some of the down-stream
mail dispatch software optimize things

Send out either individual messages (if you want the "to" address to show in the mail message) or send out batches with less than 200 destination addresses
per message in the BCC field (if you don't care about the "to" address.

You might want to collect bounce messages and disable addresses after some
number of bounces.

abc

If you're doing this sort of thing alot you may want to look into email campaign management software.
Many of them automatically manage the bounces etc.
