I just filled the Bug ID# 4402272:

JCAuthentication framework cannot be used under WebObject 5.3 (xcode 2.2).

All java client applications using JCAuthentication quit with this message when launched from script in terminal:

apple.awt.EventQueueExceptionHandler Caught Throwable : java.lang.IllegalStateException: Server exception: The string "--" is not permitted within comments.
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Server exception: The string "--" is not permitted within comments.

The -- refers to the comments in the "html" files in your WebObjects component files. The error is nonsensical to me. But to fix it, just open these up in xcode and kill all the comments.
