I received approval from both Apple and about 30 or 40 of the people
I have emailed so far asking for permission to reproduce their
mailing list posts onto the WO Wikibook at http://en.wikibooks.org/
wiki/Programming:WebObjects (anything in red has no content yet, only
the blue ones -- still a long way to go :) ).
I've put up mailing list posts of interest through about mid-May
2005, but I'd like to get some opinions on the organization of
content (specifically the content taken from mailing list posts) that
appears in there before doing the entire batch. At the moment, the
approach I have been taking is to discuss the topic with a non-
attributed lead-in (i.e. a general area for everyone to put content
within), then follow that discussion with subsections titled with the
author's name containing edited comments, posts, notes, etc from the
mailing list. The only editing I am doing is cutting sections out
(for instance, lead-ins, signatures, references to other topics,
etc). The only editing for content that I have do is to adjust
spacing of code segments so they process properly in the Wiki.
Fortunately most of the threads on the WO list are relatively flat
(i.e. not very tree-like), so I think this structure will work out OK.
There is a new page at the very end that lists the names of people
who have given approval for their posts to appear in the Wikibook
(some are OK without attribution, but to make it easier, I've just
given attribution to everyone). If you are not in that list and
you're OK having your content put on the book, please add your name
to the list. If you are putting content in the book, please check
that list prior to doing so and get permission from the author first.
And of course, if you'd just like to add your own content, please do!
