My first guess would be a problem in the data you are importing. Perhaps a string with trailing spaces in one place and without in another.

My import is quite complicated with about 10 tables and multiple relations.

Anyone have any idea? Sometimes it goes about 100 rows, sometimes 9 rows, ???? WTF?

I have no clue as to what is going on.
