Hi, I need to build a database that should record data in both European and Chinese languages.

What encoding should I choose?

Really, the only choice these days is UTF-8. Some will try to tell you Unicode or DoubleWide character set but they're morons. You can potentially encode every Chinese character in UTF-8. It's just a matter of whether all the codepoints(?) have been defined yet or not.

Now, UTF-8 is Unicode. It's just that there is a segment of the population out there that believes Unicode means UTF-16.
