I set the shared editing context to null if I want to disable it. Have you tried that in your test app?

But, nevertheless, under heavy load I still get deadlocks with change
notifications (globalID invalidating). I dropped using change
notifications at all and let the db and file system cache do its work.
I set the lag to a couple of seconds (normally 2) for the whole app.
