And if you have not turned on automatic locking, it may be that the
logging for missing locks you thought you had on is either not or or
going someplace that you are not seeing. Try intentionally creating
a regular EOEditingContext and doing a fetch with out locking. Do
you get an warning message in the log?

Other way around ... You have to explicitly turn /on/ auto-locking
in PW, but yes, once you do, you rarely have to lock/unlock
manually. That said, it won't cause any problems as long as you
don't do something wonky.
