And if you have not turned on automatic locking, it may be that the logging for missing locks you thought you had on is either not or or going someplace that you are not seeing. Try intentionally creating a regular EOEditingContext and doing a fetch with out locking. Do you get an warning message in the log?

Yes, something to the effect of "This is not a real exception, just an indication of the missing lock" plus a stack trace.
