Oracle SQL Developer runs great on the Mac, it will let you get in there and see what indexes are in there, run queries, many many other things. I worked with a guy who knew it inside out and using it he would manage to get a lot of performance improvements using it to test a lot of different things. No DBA needed for most operations.
