For the record ---

I removed that bit of code from the script file and it launched!

So.. Mike what puts that in there and why?

if [ "${HOME}" = "" ]
then
echo ${SCRIPT_NAME}: HOME environment variable is not set! Terminating.
exit 1

ok:

hmmmm...

I have a Tiger server. I got this error by redirecting the output of womonitor.

womonitor? Uh, can we be just a tad more exact here? Like using real, actual application names? wotaskd? JavaMonitor? Specifically and exactly, what did you do?

I exactly followed: http://wiki.objectstyle.org/confluence/display/WO/Web+Applications-Deployment-Common+Pitfalls+and+Troubleshooting

checked the log and that is what it said (app is the name of the app):

app: HOME environment variable is not set! Terminating.

OK, so this is the redirected output of *wotaskd*.

It was very clear in that it said:

HOME environment variable is not set! Terminating.

Did it say anything else?

At least this is something... isn't it? Come on, it had and exclamation point after it! and then Terminating.

It sure sounds like JavaMonitor didn't like it.

Based on your (lack of) description, I have no idea where this might have come from or what it might mean.

No way the Chuck is stumped?! Do I get some prize?

Only for not providing the needed information.
