Hi;

A short follow up, not really on the legal aspect (I think the posts were clear on that), but on a technical viewpoint :

Just to make sure ... this also stands for installing WebObjects 5.3 on a XServe running Panther (and not Tiger).
On top of being legal, is this advisable ?

Thanks for any opinion/experience of that.

Serge.

The issue that people keep having isn't a technical one, it's a legal one, because Apple won't say a word about it. My interpretation has been that yes, you are allowed to deploy on any platform with no license cost. The WO team has said that was their "intention" in the way the WO 5.3 license was written, but they have declined to give an actual legal yes/no on the matter, since they are not themselves lawyers, and suggest that you contact your own lawyer for a legal interpretation of the license... That having been said, the WO team does not seem to care, so I don't think you're going to have anyone running you down for doing it. Just pull the key out of the framework on an OS X machine.

Deployment of 5.3 is free and legal on any platform, using the developer key found inside of the webobjects foundation framework. I'm not certain why everyone's so squirrelly about giving straight answers on this one, but that's perhaps just part of the general Apple corporate culture. I've gotten from several sources inside Apple that it's cool to go ahead and deploy anywhere you like.
