For structured coding and debugging, GWT takes a completely different
approach, you write and debug your code in Java and it gets cross-
compiled into javascript. It's certainly worth looking at, but it's
more intended for apps like gmail where the entire application runs
in the browser and the application server just serves up the data.
I attended the Seattle Java User's Group
<http://seajug.org/>
meeting last week where there were about 40 Java developers (mostly
from the J2EE world) who were given a presentation of GWT from one of
its principle engineers.
GWT is still in Beta and there were a number of problems with the
current builds brought up at the meeting.
I have written some dynamic Javascript for my WO applications but
will need to get on-board at some point with better client-side
tools, which will save me from re-inventing the wheel again and
again. I did spend 3 months working with WO's D2JC for a large
corporate client, that work went nowhere.
The people I listen to, ChuckH, MikeS, and others from this list,
are excited about the <Ajax.Framework> with Wonder.
An old dog, who is difficult to train, and who uses XCode, EOModeler,
and WOBuilder. Best wishes for good results from the sessions at WOWODC.
