Hi there

I've been reading up on WebObjects, but have come away a little confused?

Well, don't feel like you are alone.

  I have two questions.

1. Has Java client development been dropped in the latest version of WebObjects?

The _tools_ have been dropped. That much is clear. The future of the rest of Java Client is not clear. Quite a number of people are using it and don't want to see it go away.

2. If I am correct in thinking the EOModeler has also been dropped/ discontinued,

Yes. WebObjects Builder / WOBuilder has also been dropped.

am I also correct in thinking similar functionality is available in the latest version of Xcode and in fact WebObjects applications can now be developed using Xcode?

No, Xcode no longer supports creating new WO projects. The OS X only tools (specifically the ones that depended on the Java Bridge and Obj- C EOF) have been dropped. The recommended toolset is Eclipse with the excellent WOLips plugin:

http://wiki.objectstyle.org/confluence/display/WOL/Home

Apple is also sponsoring a standalone version of the Entity Modeler (replacement for EOModeler) from WOLips that helps those who don't / won't use Eclipse. Continuing to use Xcode for WO development is probably technically possible, but you will be fighting an uphill battle.

Hope that helps.

Chuck
