Indeed I was posting this questin some (2) weeks ago.
You can find the thread at dates 27, 28 and 29 of March, with clear
explanation (form Pierre and Mike) of where the problems come from
(WO 5.4 + Wonder). The fix I've used so far was to add this line in
Application.didFinishLaunching :
ERXPatcher.setClassForName(WOForm.class, "WOForm");
and now the problem has disapeared.

Thanks Serge. I did find the thread you mentioned, and that is exactly
the problem I'm having. It looks like Mike may have already fixed it
in Wonder.
I'm checking that now...
I updated to the latest Wonder frameworks, rebuilt the app, and all is
again right with my URLs.
Props to Serge and Mike.

P.S. I should have tried a spotlight search on my machine in addition
to my google search. The terms webobjects secure https turned up your
earlier thread inside my email archive of this list. The same terms on
google were not nearly as helpful.
