Not always.

Do you have a restricting qualifier?


Yes.

I've seen problems going from an inherited record to another inherited record (where they both have the same super).


This is not always the case here. But it is one of the cases.

Have you turned on adaptor logging and checked the sql?


Yes. That is absolutely fine.
