ojdbc14.jar is a driver for Java 1.4, there is different ojdbc14.jar see: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html but there isn't one for Oracle 8i, so get one from 9i or 10g but not from 11g (compatibility may be broken).
