Accessing selected attributes before a form submit

I'm creating a few forms, and am currently trying to populate an array
with data based on what the user selected from a WOPopUpButton.
I know how to get the selected value for the WOPopUpButton after a
form submit, but is there any way to do this before hand?
I'm calling an Ajax action when the user selects from a list, but in
order to do anything, it needs to know which object is selected.

Btw, thanks Mike for the Ajax help. I never looked into the example
app, but I hope to in the near future. Everything worked out fine when
I put the updatelink inside the updatecontainer.

Thank you
