Hello list,

thank you very, very much to everyone who answered! Subsuming every advice I think I will store the images in the file system for the main reason that the images could be so large in size.

Now there are a lot of things to consider in different areas:
- including the filesystem in the backup-strategy (more a deployment and maintenance task than mine)
- non-blocking upload/download (including concurrent request handling <shudder/>), maybe we will write an applet for upload to allow the user to make a preview-selection
- creating thumbnails and smaller screen displays


So, there's a lot to learn in near future!
