I set the disabled bit to true in <...wtaskd.plist>, this gets reflected correctly in Server Admin which shows WebObjects not started, but wotaskd is being started, I don't know from where, it's owned by launchd[1] which is owned by <root>.

If you manually edit the launchd config files, Server Admin and the contents of the launchd config files might be out of sync until a reboot.

Also, merely disabling wotaskd in its launchd config file won't stop wotaskd if it's already running. Upon reboot, wotaskd shouldn't start if its config file is set to disabled.

So you should really use Server Admin to control wotaskd rather than editing its launchd config file.

When I look at the httpd error logs on the 10.5 server, which is IP ...227, I see:
[Tue Dec 18 15:15:44 2007] [error] [client ...227] script not found or unable to stat: /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/WebObjects

Is this error log in /var/log/apache2? I.e., are you running Apache 2.2 on Leopard Server? Does /etc/apache2/httpd.conf contain the magic entries that allow WO to run? These entries have been discussed in this forum recently. This error indicates that /Library/WebServer/CGI- Executables/WebObjects doesn't exist which is surprising for a system on which WO should exist.

And, only indirectly related, from 10.5
<http://localhost:1085> yields:
Attempt to call Direct Action: defaultAction on wotaskd with incorrect password.

If you look at the wotaskd source in /Developer/Examples/ JavaWebObjects/Source/Javawotaskd/src with the Xcode 3 tools installed under Leopard, this message occurs when you've protected wotaskd with a password.

Do I need to do something more to bridge from httpd 10.5 to WebObjects on a different computer?

There are three ways that wotaskd on the Web server learns about deployed WO apps, so you should read the WO deployment guide to determine which approach is best for your situation and how to configure the approach that you choose.

Aloha,
Art
