Hello Amedeo,
Hello Mike and all WOCommunity,
I'm started developing on WebObjects 5 years ago, previously I had
experience with PHP+MySQL.
You're someone who saw the light :-)
I use Mac since 1986, i was born in 1980 :-) and I have a nice
collection of old Macs...
The first time I used WebObjects was a bit hard to understand the
mechanism, but now WebObjects for me is simply fantastic.
In webobjects I developed a framework with helper functions, that
are very very similar with WOOgnl and some ERExtensions....
unfortunately I started using Project Wonder too late, one year ago
or less.
I always used Xcode before switching to Leopard, now obviously, I
use Eclipse + WOLIps.
I'm also a syetem administrator, and I have 5 Xserves :)
I'm writing to you because I have a project:
MacOS X server WebMail service is the opensurce PHP squirrelmail,
that is terrific, ... slow, and looks very bad, I wolut lile to
create, with help of WO community a beautiful WebObject application
for webmail, I work in a design company and we realized a lot of
beautiful (I think) sites. Some examples are:
That's a nice project. I guess it would be a open-source project?

http://www.apell.it
http://www.fater.it

The best WebMail I heve seen is .mac Mail, is simply fantastic, but
I think apple will never opensource it :)
My guess is that they will (hopefully) replace SquirrelMail with
MobileMe in 10.6 (it's just a guess), but it's still at least 12
months away, and most people won't upgrade before Spring 2010.
I can make all graphical layouts, html css and javascript coding,
but I'm sure I'll need the WO community help for building a great
WebObjects app.
My WebObject skill is good, but not so advanced I think.
Second... I would like to use WebObjects better every day, but I'm
still unable to find some documentation, can you provide some links
and howto for these:
How can I use SVN with Eclipse? I read is great to use SVN, even if
I'm the sole developer (and I am), but I know nothing about SVN
Use Subversive in Eclipse. But you also need to create the server-
side stuff. The server-side binaries are available on Leopard, for
Tiger, you can install them with MacPorts or fink.
Sometimes, when I'm developing an application I'm also developing
some framework for that application, actually I develop the
framework, I build then and I have a simlink from
myframework.framework to my Library/Framework, so I don't need to
copy the framework everytime.
But I'm sure this is not the correct way, is only a workaround.
Regarding my existing frameworks, as you can read above I made some
framework similar to WOOgnl or ER, now I think is unuseful to
continue developing clones, but some mine frameworks have some
useful stuff that WOOgnl doesn't have, can I contribute to WOOgnl to
make it better?
I send this email to all WebObjects community because I think we can
do really a great stuff, and I would like to thanks anyone is this
list who everyday helps the WebObjects roadmap.
Best regards
Amedeo Mantica
ps: Mike... there is a bad bug in Entity Modeler 1.0.5, there are a
lot of problems subclassing an Entity, some attirnuteg get not
copied, you should check it :-)
Why do you use the standalone Entity Modeler if you are using Eclipse
and WOLips?
