How did you get around that .... or are you on java 1.4?

Yeah, the stubs are in their own framework compiling against 1.4.

However, if your axis client app is a non-WO app you can happily use axis 1.4 to connect to axis 1.1. Our onCourse app does that.

axis1.1 is what I've linked against. I believe later versions are incompatible - at least for wsdl generation.
