new Session being created

I have a DirectAction which attempts to read information from a current session. However, when accessing the information, a new Session is created, thereby rendering the action useless. The action includes the sessionID via the wosid key:

	http://localhost/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Test.woa/-5555/wa/status?wosid=ees0hDQNM0wTL3nLXQbD8M

Is there any reason why this should/could be occurring?
