So I've changed this, as a work around, to

And now it's responding quickly again for development mode.
I'd still be interested in seeing if the previously given bottleneck
could be improved - as it's obviously more ideal to keep the dev
environment closely matched to the deployment env.
Any ideas on this Mike?
