Greetings Pascal,
How about the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release (SDSS) 1 or the
MONET survey. Both Dr. Tuparev and I have respectively large
catalogs of the night sky. I am not sure of the size that MONET
comprises, but the meta-data catalog of DR1 itself is 300GB in
size. I have found that I have had to use some of WO/ EO's
restraints to "thumb" through the results, lest the return query
over whelm the server or the channel. The data set that DR1 itself
references is 3TB in size. There are 7 data releases of the SDSS.
Our next big hurdle is incorporating the excellent advise and
techniques that we saw at WOWODC 2009.
Thank you,
Dan

Would a randomly generated dataset be acceptable?

You can use it to generate as much data as you want. The only
limitation is how much data fits into the app's memory during a
single generation process, so you may need to do a few runs for
really large sets.

This is a bit off-topic, but does anyone have a good large example
dataset to test different RDBMS, mainly for performance? In fact,
I think it would be nice to have such a thing with a EOModel so
that not only people can test the RDBMS but also different
settings for EO fetching (batch faulting, etc.). Let's just say
that the Movies database is not big enough to do a suitable
test... :-)
