Wonder's Ajax also integrates component actions, and to me that
makes using ajax more natural, easier, more fun than using direct
actions.
It certainly does but there's a performance hit with component actions
as it needs to re-evaluate the whole page, conditionals and all. So it
depends how complex your page is as to whether this is ultimately a
good thing. As always, YMMV.
When I started doing ajax with WebObjects I was using direct
actions. Then eventually wrote my own framework to integrate
component actions. Then I discovered Wonder's Ajax. Then I saw it
in action at WOWODC08. Then as I started digging more and more I
realized I was reinventing the wheel. And a lot of stuff I wanted
to add to my own framework was already in Wonder's Ajax. So instead
of reinventing the wheel I decided to start using Wonder and ditch
my stuff. Wonder's Ajax is more complete, has undergone more
testing and more uses, it is more versatile and has more developers
using it and making it better.
Sure .. we're using part Ajax framework, part custom as they wanted
jquery etc...
