Hi Chuck,
Still getting this problem after a few days of running .... last
time we discussed, I had updated all the WO servers which run
leopard to use IP address for host name...... I still have not
touched the single only Tiger machine that is apache and runs the
site's WOMonitor and has a couple tiny insignificant WO apps. I am
not ready to upgrade this machine to a Leopard machine just yet, so
I guess that is the next guy to be updated with IP addresses instead
of its Bonjour name ..... but I have a question for you based on
your experience with this:
- For that primary WOMonitor machine which is the main site
webserver, should I change to localhost, 127.0.0.1 or the actual IP
address of the machine in WOMonitor Host settings and wotaskd
properties? (FWIW, for last couple of years, we have used the
Bonjour host.local name style on that machine)
We usually use neither. We use the name that DNS lookups (reverse
lookup working is important too) to the primary IP on that machine.

PS. This whole setup worked perfectly for last couple of years under
Tiger and only for that darn close-wait network slowness of Tiger
when talking to a Windows socket service, we would have left them
all on Tiger where they rans for months on end without
restarts...... :-(
I had just as many problems with this under Tiger, but it was usually
(always?) due to actual problems like deadlocking instances and run
away processes.

On each individual WebObjects app server?
Yes. This might be fixed now in Leopard, but the paranoia lingers
on. I have found that things work best when the host name in
JavaMonitor matches the host name that wotaskd is listening on.

OK, I replaced the Bonjour names in the apache adaptor config
with IP addresses and configured those Leopard hosts with their
IP addresses instead of their Bonjour addresses in
WOMonitor ..... so the WOMonitor machine is no longer speaking
French to the Leopard XServes.
Thanks for the advice Chuck .... hopefully the next 7 days will
prove this to be more reliable. :-)
If not you can try adding -WOHost ip.address to wotaskd
properties or launchd config
