Yeah, I actually have yet another framework (that isn't committed to Wonder (yet)) that also has a JNI ImageIO implementation for pulling image metadata. I don't recall if I wrote other variations of that one. It's relatively simple to do in Java2D, but it's not nearly as fast as the native one (obviously).
