Hi Simon,
I've been to two WWDC (2000 and 2002) back in the days when WO was a
significant part of the proceedings. I made the decision to just
attend WOWODC in 2007 and 2008. Now that the WO conference is two
days, I think it is especially worth it, but I am not flying from the
UK and going through jet-lag and all that. I don't regret my decision
to just attend the WO weekend and return home and I imagine I'll do
the same again this year. WWDC is great the first time, but I found it
pretty repetitive the second time. As Chuck says, though, as an
opportunity to hang out with other WO people full time for a week, it
is second to none. Depends how much of that you think you'll be able
to stand ;-)
I hear this year there's going to be a after hours session on goat
herding and husbandry. That might be worth staying for.

Just wondering what the general opinion is on the value of WWDC for

Before people start asking for it, yes we plan to have WOWODC again
this
year. In fact, we are planning TWO WOWODC this year!
First one, WOWODC West will be for advanced topics
- Maven
- Integration with Cocoa
- Advanced EOF
- Direct2Web
- Other topics (we still need additionnal presenters!)
Like WOWODC 2007 and 2008, WOWODC West will be held the week-end
before
WWDC, so it will be June 6th/7th. We don't know where it will be,
current
choices are the Whitcomb, Parc 55 or Palace hotels. We are trying
to get a
block of sleeping rooms, so wait before make reservations for your
room, we
might get a good deal.
WOWODC East will be held in downtown Montreal on August 29th/30th.
This one
will be for novice developers. Topics should be
- Creating reusable components and understanding bindings
- EOEditingContext best practices
- Architecting a project for success
- Using Project Wonder so you don't pull your hair out
- Prototypes, Migrations and EOGeneration
More details next week.
