Yep, did all that but couldn't get the WebObjects.la file.

<locate_apxs.jpg>
if you don't have that, run this command as root to install that
yum install http-devel
Then in Adaptors/make.config, edit the start of the script to look like this:
<make.config.jpg>
After that, run 'make CC=gcc'
And the Apache2.2 will look like this:
<apache2.2.jpg>
Run the apxs command inside that dir.
The instructions are not exact for centos filesystem layout, but the general procedure is as indicated on the wiki
