input dates info needed

I need to permit my users (of my app) to input dates. I am so enthralled with how easy some things are in webobjects and I can not seem to find an easy solution to my problem.
I want the user to be able to type in 02152010 or 2-15-2010 or 2/15/2010 and the input would properly format to what I am telling the format to be.
ie. you type 02152010 and tab to the next field and the date is formatted to 02.15.2010.
I am hoping someone will tell me there is an easy framework that can do this and I have been barking up the wrong tree...
