"pw" is the right variable. So the url with have ?pw=mypassword
Just make sure your password doesn't contain any special url characters like ?&/# and such.

Do I have to use the hashed version of the password ? I tried resetting the password for the monitor (from a web browser it took me right in), but that had the same effect.
PS: I had started by looking at the JavaMonitor source code, but didn't have the time to figure it out ...
