Double tab pane creation

Sending again without the second screenshot due to over length...
----------------------------------------------------
Hi list,

I'm having an issue where a pane in an AjaxTabbedPane is getting created a second time whenever the form on the pane is submitted by an ObserverContainer that is watching a group of popups in a repetition (all on the same pane). If I do the same action with a hyperlink, the pane is not created a second time. If I unbind updateContainerID from my observer, it does not recreate the pane a second time (of course, the page doesn't work then). If I then manually call AjaxUtils.updateContainerWithID() in my action method, it doesn't create a new pane, but only works in FF, not Safari. I've attached a screenshot of the pane -- not shown is that there is a form and, within that, an update area, which both basically go around the whole pane.

The extra weird thing is that, with manual update of the update container, I seem to get this spurious request that gets no response. I've attached a screenshot.

So, it would appear that ObserverContainer in this situation is not giving me any love... the bad part is I cannot see how to fix this, since the only fix that seems to work doesn't work with Safari.

Anyone have any ideas that would help me get out of this endless pit of Ajax despair?
