Since there was a mention of AJP....
...just a quick shibboleth note in here for the search engines. If you're using shibboleth and reading attributes sent from an identity provider, the most secure way to receive them is as environment variables (versus http headers). So, AJP/Tomcat would be the most secure way to use shibboleth.
I haven't used Andrew's frameworks but they should definitely get a good look in a scenario like above.
