Yeah, I agree and yet you're getting that error message.
Are there any logs for testapp which have been archived?
Something like this:
/Library/WebObjects/Logs/testapp-1.20100726130020894
How about trying manually to create or rename log files in that folder as _appserver:
sudo -u _appserver touch /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test
# ls to confirm, something like:
ls -la /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test
-rw-r--r-- 1 _appserver _appserveradm 0 29 Jul 07:32 /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test
sudo -u _appserver mv /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test2
# ls to confirm
sudo -u _appserver rm /Library/WebObjects/Logs/test2
# ls to confirm
Something doesn't add up here! ;-)
