So, either I am doing something wrong or it doesn't work that way,

I was expecting that if I used:

<td colspan="7">Sometext here</td>

the .xls file to produce a merged row 7 columns wide.

I don't get that as the excel export seems to ignore the colspan indication and I get a single column with "Sometext here" in it.

Maybe I don't understand the limitations yet.
